Our Early Careers Application Process

There are just four stages to our application process, each designed to bring out your skills, talent and potential

CV Application

All applications are managed online. You can find live opportunities posted right here on our website. When you find a role of interest, all you need to do is hit apply.

We’ll then ask for a CV, some basic personal details and a few questions. Cover letters are not mandatory.

Online Testing

Depending on the role you apply for, your online testing may vary. We use a range of tools to help us understand more about you and your abilities.

The most common is our SJT (Situational Judgement Test). This test helps us understand more about your natural behaviours and thought process. There’s no time limit however we recommend you don’t overthink it and go with you gut.

Video Interview

The third stage in our application process involves a one-way pre-recorded video Interview.

Video Interview plays an important role and helps us get to know you on a more personal and professional level.

In this stage you’ll be asked a series of short questions with a set time limit to respond to these. You will also have the option to re-record your answers.

Assessment Centre

Depending on the role you will either attend a group Assessment Centre, or a Final Stage Interview.

Assessment Centres typically lasts a few hours or a full day depending on the number of assessments.

Introduction to the team
Group activity
Networking with previous students
1on1 Interview
Individual exercises

CV Application

Our Top Tips:

Use Google, LinkedIn and the Experian Website to research ahead of an application.
Format, grammar and layout are important. Take the time to build a strong CV fit for the role you're applying to.
Show passion for the opportunity you’re applying for. If you can’t convey this consider whether you’re applying for the right role.
Check the application deadline on our website. Don’t miss this.
Utilise your Employability team. Many Colleges and Universities have a dedicated team to help you with applications. Use them!

Online Testing

Depending on the role you apply for, your online testing may vary. We use a range of tools to help us understand more about you and your abilities.

Here’s a summary of our most common tests and what they’re used for:

Situational Judgement Test (SJT): This test helps us understand more about your natural behaviours and thought process. There’s no time limit however we recommend you don’t overthink it and go with your gut.

General Ability Test: This test helps us understand your problem-solving and critical reasoning capabilities. Examples of the tasks faced during this exercise include, but are not limited to:

Evaluating arguments
Analysing scenarios
Working with data
Mathematical computation
Interpreting graphs and tables
Drawing logical conclusions

This test lasts around 30 minutes and is best taken in a quiet, distraction free environment.

Our Top Tips:

Have suitable equipment nearby (Pen, paper, calculator and phone where appropriate)
Read the instructions thoroughly. Do you have one test to complete? Two? Be clear on what you're being asked to action.
Keep an eye on the time, try your best to complete each exercise.
If you make a mistake, don't dwell on this. Simply move onto the next task.
If possible, try out some free practice apptitude and/or behavioural tests to become more comfortable.

Video Interview

Video Interviews play an important role and helps us get to know you on a more personal and professional level.

You’ll be asked a series of short questions with a set time limit to respond to these.

If you’d like to practice ahead of your application please click here to complete our mock video interview. This interview is not monitored so you won’t receive any feedback, however it will show an example of what’s to come and make you feel more comfortable. During this you will have as many re-takes as you like.

Our Top Tips:

Ensure you're in a distraction free, quiet environment.
Never sit behind a window, this will create bad downward lighting. Instead, use a lamp or face a window where natural light will work to your advantage.
Check your surroundings! We recommend using a plain background or backdrop. Test being on camera and consider what others will see in your background.
Body language is noticeable during this phase. Remember to smile, nod, listen and take an interest when someone is talking to you.
Keep a bottle of water nearby.
Check that your laptop, camera, and microphone are working.

Assessment Centre

If you reach this stage, take a moment to applaud your success. Depending on the role you will either attend a group Assessment Centre, or a Final Stage Interview.

Our Assessment Centres typically last for 5 hours. Typical activities that you can expect include:

Introduction to the team
Group activity
Networking with previous students
1on1 Interview

Our Top Tips:

Refresh yourself on what you know about Experian, and the role you've applied to.
Thoroughly read your invitation and know where you need to be, and at what time.
If you are unclear on something, simply ask. Don't wait until the day to flag issues.
Revisit your CV and consider examples where you've showcased transferable skills.
Prepare for your interview and role play appropriate responses.
